11 & Under Technical /Performance Suit Policy - Answers to some FAQ's

The Swimming Tasmania Competitions & Events By-Law states that “Competitors 11 years and under are not permitted (or allowed) to wear a technical/performance suit in STAS hosted competitions”.

The following notes are intended only to answer some queries regarding which swimwear is permitted and must be read in conjunction with the full 11 & Under Technical/Performance suit policy.

The 11 & Under Technical/Performance suit policy explains the difference between permitted swimwear and technical suits, stating “the differentiation between these suits is the fabric and stitching”. We have received some enquiries regarding various suits and wish to clarify that a suit with any of the following features is deemed a technical suit and is therefore NOT permitted :

• Manufactured with a scientifically advanced fabric that reduces drag & increases athlete’s glide through the water.

• Manufactured with a scientifically advanced fabric that reduces absorption of water (ie has increased water repellency)

• Manufactured with a scientifically advanced fabric that is highly compressive

• Has bonded/sealed seams

• Has meshed seams

• Has kinetic tape

We have received some enquiries regarding the TYR Thresher and Fusion swimsuits and Arena Powerskin suits. These suits are entry level technical suits and contain some of the features listed above and are therefore NOT permitted.

Please note that the policy does allow traditional one piece race suits and knee length suits for girls and briefs, trunks and jammers for boys provided they do not feature the components of a technical suit. Please see the full policy for photographic examples of these suits. These suits do not need to be cleared with the Technical Manager or Referee.

Swimming Tasmania has adopted the Swimming Australia Inclusive Swimwear Policy and is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive swimming environment for all members. Any swimmer wishing to swim in a modified or alternative swimsuit must (either themselves or their representative) present the suit to the Technical Manager or Meet Referee prior to the swimmer’s first event at the competition for approval
