Our History

Swimming Tasmania was established in 1910 and has been the peak body for swimming in Tasmania and an affiliated stakeholder of Swimming Australia ever since.

We represent the interests of all Tasmanian clubs and their members throughout the state.

Swimming Tasmania promotes swimming as a healthy lifestyle choice and promotes swimming at all levels by encouraging members to enjoy their sport and maximise their potential through participation in quality swimming programs within supportive and friendly club environments.

As a not-for-profit organisation, Swimming Tasmania generates its revenue through sponsorships, government grants, membership and events. Income and funding is re-invested back into the sport through special projects, development programs, activities and education, with direct benefits to all members regardless of where they live or which club they belong to.

At grass-roots and club level, the sport is largely delivered by volunteers who give up their free time to assist in the day-to-day running of clubs. An equally dedicated number of volunteers act as Officials at swim meets ensuring that they run as smoothly as possible.
