Great results over the Championships

Sophie Botterill-James won the first Tasmanian title at the 2015 Cripps Tasmanian Age Swimming Championships. Pushed all the way by mainland competitor, Molly Freeman, Sophie took out the 12-13 years 400m Individual Medley in 5.44.02s.

Fast times and close competition are anticipated at the Tasmanian Age Swimming Championships being held over the upcoming long weekend. The Championships have attracted more than 300 entries, including a large contingent of swimmers from the mainland.

Records go close to tumbling

Day 1 of the Tasmanian Sprint and Relay Championships saw several records threatened but none falling. In the 50m Butterfly events, 11 year old Stefanie McCarthy, 12 year olds Sophie Botterill James and Thomas Sladden, 14 year old Freya Jetson, 16 year old Pru Hamdorf and 18 year old Joshua McDermott all went within a whisker of breaking Tasmanian records in their respective events, swimming personal best times in the process.

HC Swim Club's Olivia Sanderson did not let the tricky weather and water conditions stop her from claiming the Tasmanian Open Water 10 kilometer and 5 kilometer Championship titles held at Seven Mile Beach on Saturday.
