The SSA Championships are held in a different State each year, with teams participating from all Australian States and Territories. Participants must be enrolled primary and secondary school students aged at least 10 years old (but no older than 19) by 31 December of the year of the Championships.
2024 School Sport Australia Swimming Championships will be held at Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, Marine Parade, Southport, Gold Coast.
24-27 July for swimmers aged 10, 11 & 12.
27-31 July for swimmers aged 13 to 19.

Selection for this team will be based on performances at the following meets:
· Swimmers must compete in at least one of 2024 State Sprint Champs and 2024 State LC Champs (exceptions to this requirement will be in absolute discretion of the selectors)
· Selection criteria period: 1st December 2023 – 11th March 2024 (Includes Qualifying Trials & all Tasmanian Championships (including Regional Championships) during this time period; and interstate qualifying trials and/or Championships during this period of time as may be approved in the absolute discretion of the selectors. Swimmers requesting times attained at interstate meets to be included for selection must make a request on their nomination form.
In the event of illness or injury which prevents a swimmer competing at the above meets, the Selection Committee may consider other official times swum during the current long course season, provided that a satisfactory medical certificate is provided. Team and event selection is ultimately at the discretion of the Selection Committee.
Nominating for School Sports - Tasmanian Team
Swimmers wishing to be considered for this team are required to submit a Nomination Form (Jotform) and pay the required $200 Nomination fee; as advertised on the Swimming Tasmania Website and Facebook page. Swimmers must only submit a Nomination form if they have achieved a selection standard as set out in the selection criteria below.

Number of events
The number of swims allocated to a team member is at the discretion of the Selection Committee AND (unless selectors consider exceptional circumstances apply) no swimmer will be allocated more than 6 individual events (due to the shorter meet program). Selection Standards
“Selection standards” are the minimum times required by Swimming Tasmania for a swimmer to be considered for selection in an event. At the close of nominations, any swimmer who has not attained at least 1 qualifying time in the selection period, 1 December 2023 to 11 March 2024, will be notified that they are ineligible for selection and will not be considered further in the selection process.
Swimmers should check the Championship program on the School Sports Australia website to confirm which events are offered for their age group. Multi-class selections are at the discretion of the selectors.
Swimmers who have attained at least 1 selection standard, and whether or not they are selected for that event, may also be selected in events for which the have not attained selection standard times in the absolute discretion of the Selection Committee, in circumstances where no swimmer (or less than the permitted entries) has attained selection standard times, and the Selection Committee considers the swimmer’s performance to be suitable for selection in the circumstances.
Relay team selection
Relays will be selected closer to the time for submitting entries for the Championships taking into account each swimmer’s current season performances in the relevant distances and strokes. To be clear, relay selection is not limited to times attained in the selection period and performances in the 2024 short course season (with or without conversion) may be used to select swimmers using most up to date performances. Selected teams will not necessarily be the fastest ranked swimmers depending on individual swimmer event loads and in the absolute discretion of the selection committee.
